This espresso knock box uses a ½" (12 mm) hardwood dowel cut to 88mm in length as its striking surface. The ½" dowels at my local hardware store measured 11.8mm so the knock box was designed with that in mind. If the dowels available to you are a different size, you can either sand the dowel or adjust the FreeCAD model provided.
