Inspired by Norbaurer's Space Dock

Wanted a heavy solid keyboard stand that was my own...

For my cement make
  1. 3d Print mold (recommend PLA since it will break apart easier)

  2. Post processing print clean up

  3. Add cooking oil lightly to the inside of the mold, helps release the cement

  4. Pour cement

    1. Used Cement-All available at big box home stores

    2. Vibrate/Tap mold or table for a couple of minutes to reduce air bubbles

  5. Let dry for 4ish hours

  6. Remove mold

  7. Sand by hand to remove print artifacts (220 grit, 320 grit)

  8. Add rubber feet and some padding (rubber, cork etc.) where the keyboard goes

  9. To turn cement black

    1. let the cement cure for entirely (7-28 days)

    2. mix one bottle of 1/2 bottle Rit Dye mixed with water wait 90+ minutes let dry

    3. Post drying completely again add some kind of sealant

Notes / Tips
  • Do not go too intense post processing the mold sanding will remove the print lines (sanding the seam near the base is recommended though )

  • Cement mix should be slightly looser than pancake batter

  • To break the mold use a soldering iron or hot air staging (preferably outside because it will release some nasty fumes).  Breaking the outer shell first by hand worked well for me

  • Printing go with one wall so the mold in not too strong if it needs to be broken up

Versions
  • Version 1 initial model

  • Version 2 better curves slightly taller
