These are hoops that I've used when evaluating my drums.

These hoops are not intended for live playing/gigging, they will slowly deform over time due to the high tension of snare drums.  They are very useful when evaluating different drums.

The hoops behave similarly to wooden hoops and can dampen higher frequencies found with triple flange and die cast.  Eventually I want to run some more stress analysis and improve the design to be a viable option for professional use.

Recommended approach

  • Print with the top of the hoop on the build plate
  • Hoop is designed to be printed without supports
  • You will need to drill out the holes for the tension rods
  • Recommended filament: PLA+, ABS, (PA-CF had great initial results, however material creep compromised the hoop after 1 year)
  • Cooling fan low/off
  • Mixed results with carbon/glass infused filaments, snare faced issues with layer adhesion.
