Design
We gave it a try, and here's our Swiss Army knife of a tent stake: toe-friendly, safe to carry, and designed for better ground adaptation. Harder ground often hinders traditional stakes, where a high rope mount on a partially inserted stake creates leverage and pull-out risk. Our sawfish-like design solves this with multiple rope mounting points along its length, allowing adjustable attachment heights for different insertion depths. Furthermore, the design features rounded edges and corners – not so round as to be problematic for use, but enough to prevent damage to your gear and reduce the risk of accidental injury.
Construction
The stake is constructed from three elements: a ribbon that wraps around, forms the sawtooth and creates the outer shell, a core that fills the space within this ribbon, and an eyelet for securing a rope. To avoid notching stresses and allow for support-free printing, all edges are rounded but feature a 35-degree clip. The combination of this ribbon shell and solid core results in a surprisingly sturdy and functional tent stake.
Slicing, Printing
- Basic Print (Quick and Functional): For a simple, functional stake, you can directly print the model with standard settings. Note that this method may not showcase the design's aesthetic details or achieve maximum strength.
- Enhanced Print (Visually Appealing): For a more visually appealing stake, use the following slicer settings:
- No top or bottom layers.
- 6 perimeters.
- Increased infill density (between 30 and 60% cubic or gyroid). This option will resemble the examples shown but will not fully utilize the benefits of the internal fillets.
- Optimized Print (Strong and Detailed): To fully leverage the design's features, including the internal and external fillets for enhanced strength and reduced stress concentration, use these settings:
- No top or bottom layers.
- 6 perimeters.
- Core Settings: 0 perimeters and an infill density between 30 and 60% gyroid or cubic. This method will yield a strong and aesthetically refined hook with a very low weight.
- All of these parameters are set in the 3MF file.
General Printing Recommendation: It is generally recommended to print multiple stakes simultaneously to avoid excessively short layer times, which can impact print quality.
Assembly
Sorry, no assembly this time, just pound it in!
