Simple Snap-On Door Latch for 3D Printer Enclosures

Description:
After a long search for a simple, non-intrusive door latch, I realized most options either need to be screwed in or only work with 180° hinges. So I designed this straightforward solution!

UPDATE !

Added V2 with +0.5mm wider slot on the frame site (Striaght slot) to prevent scratching off the Seal if printed with ABS, ASA, PETG or similar hard Material.

UPDATE !

✅ Features:

No screws required – non-permanent, no damage

Holds door open ~86 mm – perfect for PLA prints

Prevents fan noise from escaping

Fast and easy to print

Clean snap-fit design

🔥 Installation Tip:

Due to the snug fit, briefly warm the latch using a mini gas torch or heat gun before sliding it over your glass door and onto the printer frame. It stays in place firmly without any tools or adhesives.

🧩 Customization:

Designed to be remix-friendly – feel free to adapt it for different door thicknesses or opening widths!

🖨 Print Settings:

Material: recommended TPU because PLA, PETG, or ABS will "Eat" the seal.

Layer Height: 0.2 mm

Infill: 15–25%

Supports: No

Brim/Raft: Optional

Orientation: Print flat on its side for maximum strength

🔧 Installation Guide

Tools Needed:

Mini gas torch or heat gun

(Optional) Heat-resistant gloves

Step 1: Prepare the Latch
Print the part as per the settings above. Make sure the print is clean and edges are smooth (a bit of light sanding may help if needed).

Step 2: Warm the Latch
Using a mini gas torch or heat gun, gently warm the inner arms of the latch for a few seconds.
⚠ Important: Do not overheat – it just needs to become slightly flexible. PLA softens at around 60–70°C.

Step 3: Fit Over the Door
While the plastic is still warm and pliable, slide the latch over the edge of your glass door, with the open side facing toward the printer’s frame.

Step 4: Snap to Frame
Push the latch toward the frame until it grips both the glass door and frame edge snugly. Hold in place for a few seconds as it cools.

Step 5: Done!
Your door should now stay open ~86 mm, improving airflow during prints and minimizing noise in your workspace.
