Print this if you want to:
- add some color to your patio
- create a glow in the dark path
- have smaller tiles that still work with edge strips
Design
Each tile is nominally 15×15 cm, that is one fourth the size of an IKEA Runnen tile. The design takes into account, that those are around 1 mm bigger in reality and have a 1mm gap to their neighbors.
The screw holes allow you to install the slats in either direction.
Note: If you have older Runnen tiles you can reuse both screws and slats.
Hardware
Six 3×12 mm wood screws (or closest imperial equivalent, probably #4×1/2 inch).
Printing Instructions
Grid
Make sure to use a somewhat flexible material, like PETG. PLA will not work, the tabs will break after a single use.
Print in the given orientation with supports. If possible, use an easy to remove material, as the support will be quite thin and narrow.
I recommend using 6 perimeters/walls, making the piece mostly solid. The infill percentage does not matter much and can be left at the default value.
Slats
For outdoor use I'd recommend using either a UV-resistant material or applying a clear coat with UV protection. The ones you see in the photos are PLA.
Print in the given orientation. Use brims or mouse ears if you have issues with warping.
Using the default settings should result in a solid print, if not increase number of top/down layers and/or number of perimeters.
Feedback
This model took some me some time to get right, so I'm looking forward to your feedback!
