These have a 50mm diameter, I did not try to up-scale them, but you are free to try ;)
I spray painted only the sphere (top part). I recommend to print the cone (bottom part) in a darker color to make it more difficult to see it through the water and enhance the ‘floating effect'. Both of my parts are printed in PETG and glued together afterwards. I guess you could print it in PLA also, as the water cools it down somewhat to avoid degradation in the summer heat. Make sure the top part is air tight so it can actually float! The cone has some holes in it where the water flows in and sinks it halfway.
Print settings, general:
- 0.2 mm layer height
- bridge settings ON
- 3 walls/perimeters
Top/sphere half:
- 5 top and bottom layers
- 0% infill
- flow ratio a little bit higher than your usual settings (1-2%)
Bottom/cone half:
- 15 top layers
- 0 bottom layers
- 100% infill (if the wall count doesn't work otherwise 0%)
- flow ratio as usual ‘cause it doesn’t need to be airtight
If you want the pond spheres to not float around freely (they tend to gather in the edges due to the wind or a fountain) print the bottom part with the ring and attach a string with a washer, nut or similar.
For really round, smooth and shiny spheres watch this (not mine):
