Printing Tips

1. Scaling & Fit

Measure your head circumference and scale the model in your slicer accordingly (typically 100–105% for adults).

Consider printing a small test piece (like a dome slice) to verify fit before printing the full helmet.

2. Orientation & Supports

Dome sections: Print upright or on their back/side depending on curvature. Use supports inside only to maintain surface quality.

Face plate and trim: Print flat on the bed with minimal supports.

Horns or side ornaments: May require tree supports or a 45° angle to avoid sagging.

3. Print Settings

Layer height: 0.2 mm for standard, 0.12 mm for finer details.

Walls: 3–4 perimeters for strength.

Infill: 10–15% grid or gyroid (20%+ for horns).

Supports: Everywhere or touching build plate, depending on part orientation.

Brim: Recommended for large curved parts to prevent warping.

4. Material Recommendations

PLA: Easy to print, great for cosplay.

PETG or ABS: More durable and heat-resistant if needed for outdoor events.

Consider using wood-fill PLA for a unique aged-metal look when post-processed.

5. Post-Processing

Sand and prime parts before painting.

Use silver, bronze, or iron metallic paints, followed by black/brown washes to simulate aged metal.

Add leather straps or foam padding inside for comfort and authenticity.

6. Assembly Tips

Use super glue or epoxy to bond parts.

Reinforce interior with hot glue, caulking, or fiberglass for durability.

For horned versions, ensure horns are well-supported inside the helmet with pegs or dowels.
