update 19-2-2026

Small update on the knobs and the hooks: the fan holder has extra support in the tracks for the hooks.

Upadate 24-8-2025

Hi all,
Here is an update:

I made changes to the fan holders so they are a bit fatter. This way, when you tighten the knobs, the fan holder will be fixed to the grid. Please note that because they are slightly thicker, the bolts may need to be about 5 mm longer.

Also, I added a double fan spacer that you can scale to fit the gap between the fan frames.

For the 80mm, there is now a cable trench for tidying up the cables with a cable relief.

Update 30-7-2025

I've upgraded the fan holders to use less filament, and I've also changed the connectors used for the 80mm fans to support other types.

For the 80mm fans, I'm now using the following:

1x JST 2.0 PH 5-pin pre-made cable set (male and female), available on Amazon.

To connect the fans, you can simply solder the pre-crimped wires to the two wires of the fan.
If you're using a 3-pin fan, you can cut off the RPM wire and solder only the positive and negative wires.

Inside the box, you mount the female connector in the slot and solder its wires to the 2-pin connector and the LED.

Hi all,

After many trials, errors, and prototypes, I’ve developed an improved universal fan holder for absorption fridges.

In this project file, you'll find two versions:

  • A dual 80mm fan holder for smaller vents

  • A 120mm fan holder for larger vents

One major improvement, in my opinion, is moving away from heat inserts. Instead, this design uses only nuts and bolts, which makes assembly easier and also simplifies production for you.

Universal Fan Holder – Assembly & Print Guide

This fan holder can be printed in PETG or ABS, as the temperature behind an absorption fridge is too high for PLA. Both PETG and ABS provide the necessary heat resistance and durability for this application.

Connector Box for 80mm fans not the 120mm fan

The design includes a small box with a lid, intended to house a JST-XH 6-pin (2.54mm pitch) male connector on one side, and a JST-XH 2-pin (2.54mm pitch) male connector on the other. Each connector can be secured in place using an M2 bolt at the back.

Inside this box, you can solder the connections between the power supply and the fans. For the wiring to this box, use the female versions of the same connectors.
