Recently, I started a new course that required the use of "drafting dots," small removable adhesive dots designed to secure paper to a drafting board at each corner. After quickly ruining the box they came in, I decided to spend some time creating a replacement box myself.
The box has a depth of 28mm, which means anything wider won’t fit inside. While it can accommodate an entire roll of drafting dots, the photos included show a partial roll I’m passing along to a classmate. If you scale the design along the Z-axis, it’s possible to make the box deeper without affecting the overall fit.
To address assembly and disassembly, I designed a relief hole that helps separate the pieces when necessary. Due to the tight tolerances, it doesn’t come apart easily, so using a dull tool in the relief hole provides extra leverage. I’ve found that opening the rounded section of the box first makes it easier to access.
This design can be printed in nearly any material; the version shown was printed in PETG-CF. To ensure optimal printing, position the box with its large flat surface against the build plate, and no supports are needed. Overhangs created during the design process were designed with a graduated elevation change, eliminating the need for additional support structures.
