These are spacers that can be connected to either Multiboard Plates (previously Tiles or Panels) using Dual Clips.

The default files are two Multiboard units long and go from 7 mm up to 24 mm in 1 mm increments.

Usually it is enough to put one or two a long the borders of your tiles or panels to achieve the wanted spacing.

Print with the common Multiboard settings:

  • 0.2 mm layer height

  • 3 perimeters

  • 15% infill

Parametric FreeCAD Design

I've also added a parametric FreeCAD design that allows you to create spacers in whatever form you might need.

It contains a variables section where you can edit the following values

  • corner_left: If you want (true) or don't want (false) a cutoff corner on the left

  • corner_right: Same setting for the right corner

  • length_mu: The length of the spacer in Multiboard units (25 mm)

  • width: The width of the spacer. For widths less than 6.25 mm, half Dual Clips are automatically added.

  • width_left: This adds extra width to the left side of the spacer in form of a triangle. Any value bigger than 0 will also increase the length to include the cut off corner of the tile/panel.

  • width_right: Same setting for the right side.

Playing with these will allow you to create spacers that cover the otherwise empty corners as shown in the following picture.

I've also used a little trick in this example to extend over the panel's corner on the bottom right. Setting width_left or width_right to 0.001 mm will make the spacer extend over the corner, but not get noticeably longer.

Updates

2025-06-22 V3: I have added half Dual Clips into the design for spacers thinner than 7 mm. I will not add them for wider spacers, because the clip holes are more versatile in that you can decide how many Dual Clips you want or if maybe Lite Dual Clips are enough.

Caveats:

  1. Since there is no CAD data for the Dual Clips, I had to estimate the rounded parts.

  2. I could not figure out how to properly chamfer the edges of linear patterned objects in FreeCAD.

  3. The embedded Dual Clips in Spacers longer than 2mu won't work with Square Plates, because of 25 mm instead of 50 mm offsets.

  4. The clips work for me, but they are difficult to remove even with pliers.
