Description
This is a Night Light using a skull similar to the unofficial logo of the Murder Drones web series. It uses an L LOHAS LED Night Light that is press-fit into the back plate. The light is then secured with four small clips that slide into place from slots on the bottom side of the back plate. I printed this using an AMS, but it is also possible to print it as a single piece with it via a single color change as detailed below.
Print Settings
The Front Plate must be printed as a solid piece (all surfaces or 100% infill) in order to prevent light from bleeding through the filament. However, I printed this using slightly translucent Elegoo Galaxy Black so your mileage may vary.
Printing Without A Multimaterial System
This can easily be printed without an automated color-changing system and without printing the transparent components as separate parts. Print the front plate using the following steps:
1. Open the “Front Plate Combined” step file
2. Start the print using your transparent filament
2. Pause the print at 1.2mm, or after layer 6 if printing at 0.2mm layer height
3. Swap out your transparent filament for a dark-colored filament
4. Resume the print until completion
Assembly
Assembly is quick and easy as long as your filament flow is calibrated:
1. Order your LED Night Light linked above
2. Print the back plate and 4 clips oriented vertically to maintain strength under tension
3. Press the night light into the interior of the back plate with the plug side facing down - the light should snap into place.
4. Slide the four printed back plate clips - two on each side - into place to hold the night light in place
5. Snap the front plate into place
6. Show it to your twelve year old and have her remember that you're the cool maker parent for the next 30 seconds
Modifying for Other Lights
The included STEP files should allow the design to be modified easily without dealing with meshes. However, if you wish to print an adapter that matches the dimensions of the original night light (in the event it becomes unavailable), I have included its precise dimensions in this image here:
