HEVO Remix Project – Still Relevant in 2025
Note: This project is still under development. All of part will change in the feature.
With the widespread shift toward linear rails in the DIY 3D printing community, does that mean linear rods are obsolete? Not at all. Even in 2025, commercial printers like the astonishingly affordable Elegoo Centauri Carbon continue to use linear rods. It’s clear that linear rods can still deliver excellent rigidity and precision. There’s no need to prematurely retire them in favor of linear rails.
That’s why the HEVO is far from outdated. I believe it still has the potential to shine in 2025. This project is dedicated to remixing the HEVO with modern improvements, aiming to achieve performance close to today’s cutting-edge printers.
Project Specifications
- 2020 aluminum extrusion
- 8mm linear rods
- Mini Stealth toolhead
- Shortened linear rods (Using lm8uu not lm8luu)
Current Setup my build:
- 250mm*250mm hotbed size
- 250mm*280mm travel size (you can add nozzle cleaner or other removeable probe)
- 420mm*420mm Frame size
Why using Mini Stealth
I acknowledge that the A4T and various semi-enclosed toolheads offer outstanding cooling performance and functionality. However, their strong emphasis on utility often results in designs that are even less visually appealing than the Stealthburner. That said, the Stealthburner itself is frequently criticized for its underwhelming cooling performance—though this isn't a major issue on older printers.
This creates an odd contrast in the Voron ecosystem (even if the community may not see it that way): a machine with astonishing, even intimidating motion capabilities, paired with a toolhead that only delivers sufficient cooling at around 200mm/s. It feels oddly mismatched. Still, the Stealthburner remains visually stunning, with bold geometric lines and a design that's both striking and easy to disassemble.
The Mini Stealth brings together the best of both worlds. It adopts a modernized dual-fan design that boosts airflow while maintaining a sleek aesthetic. Thanks to its compact size, the toolhead is lighter, smaller, and doesn't compromise on heated bed real estate. The creator is also highly active, with rapid iteration and responsiveness to feedback—which I truly appreciate.
ToDo List
- ❗fully enclosed
- ✅Change motor to make more trivial space (XY AWD V2)
- ❗Using trident hotbed thus the printer will have autobed feature.
- ❗Skirt
Change Log:
- 250801
XY AWD V2 release, which can give more than 20mm y axis travel range.
