Refillable and Rearrangable 3D printed notebook inspired by the 26 ring Japanese "notebook binders". For size A5 paper.

Compatible with the Lihit Lab A5 24 hole refills or any other refills with 1/3 “ hole spacing and large enough holes for the ring ”fingers" to slip through.

You can even create your own refills with a ⅓" spacing hole punches like this other one from Lihit Labs. At work, I use this method to include A4 paper in my notebook with the holes along the top of the sheet, and fold the sheet over in half to A5 size so that it doesn't stick out of the notebook.

Instructions:

  • Print 24 of the “rings”
    • Trim the “goop droops” off of the overhanging part and clear anything that will block some filament from feeding through the holes.
  • Print 1 of the "spacer back"
    • No post-processing required for the spacer back.
  • Trim a length of 1.75 mm filament to length.
    • Align the filament with the “spacer back” and leave about 25 mm of extra length.
  • Assemble the parts!
    1. Slide the filament through the first hole on the spacer back
    2. Slide it through the closed hole on the first ring
    3. Slide it through the next hole on the spacer back
    4. Orient the next ring in the same way as the previous ring
    5. Slide the filament through the current ring
    6. Repeat steps 3-5 until the filament has been fed through all 24 rings.
  • Keep it all together!
    • (Option 1) Use a soldering iron or other hot item to fuse the end of the filament to the ends of the spacer back.
      • This is my preferred method.
    • (Option 2) Fold the filament over to keep it from sliding out from the assembly.
    • (Option 3) Use an adhesive to keep the filament from sliding out.
