The Sidecover of most Lathes is combined with a Safety Switch. But sometimes you have to test the proper seat of your gears or maintain something and the motor will not move, because the circuit is only closed only when you have attached the sidecover.
Caution: This is a great Safety Feature and protects you when you are working with your changegears.
Powering up your lathe without closed safety covers is dangerous!
