This 3D printed tree tag holder is based on an old PVC one that has seen many good years of use, but should be a little easier to reproduce. For bonus points, print it in a bright color for visibility.
I printed the prototype in PLA with .16mm layers, although I think PETG or ABS/ASA might be a more durable option.
Additionally you will need one 23/32” x 3 1/2” x .041 spring, (such as this one on amazon) and optionally a split ring key ring, small carabiner, or short length of string.
The threaded parts must be printed threaded side up, and for the main tube it may be best to put supports on the bed only. I also found tree supports a little easier to use than standard ones. Either way, you probably want to clean up the groove a bit with a small metal file or a nail file once it is all done.
The spring will tension fit into the bottom of the plunger and the inside of the end cap.
Load your tree tags so the smallest number is at the top of the dispenser. The top of the dispenser is recessed by about half a tag thickness, so the tags won't fall out if you have the dispenser dangling from your belt in the field. Press down slightly to extract a tree tag.
