🌀 Modular Desiccant Pod System for Dry Boxes

This modular desiccant pod system is designed to help maintain low humidity inside filament dry boxes or other sealed enclosures. Keep your filament dry and your workflow smooth with this customizable, remix-friendly desiccant pod system, designed for use in bespoke filament drying boxes or other sealed enclosures. Whether you want a quick print-and-use option or a customizable modular setup with your choice of tube color and transparency (Clear tubes pair great with color-indicating silica gel).

🧩 PARTS OVERVIEW (as shown in render)

🔲 Base (Tan) –
Mounts beneath the dry box. Holds electronics and provides a socket for inserting either a cartridge or a pod. Designed to activate a microswitch when a pod is inserted. – A long-legs version of the base is available (not shown in render) to accommodate thicker fan assemblies.

🔵 Cartridge Coupler (Blue) –
Threaded bottom piece for the modular cartridge. Tapered to engage the switch inside the base.

🟢 Cartridge Collar (Green) –
Threaded top half of the modular cartridge. Mates with the universal Pod Cap.

⚙ Print-A-Pod (Grey) –
All-in-one refillable pod with built-in cone to press the microswitch. A quick and simple alternative to the modular tube.

🌹 Pod Cap (Rose) –
Universal cap that screws onto the top of a cartridge, the top of a Print-A-Pod, or even the bottom side during recharging—helping keep it clean and unlost.

🟣 Pod Coupler Cap (Purple) –
Double-ended Pod Cap for stacking two pods or cartridges vertically.

💧 Tube (Transparent) –
Standard 2" outer diameter pipe or tubing, cut to your desired length. Transparent tubes are ideal for monitoring color-changing desiccants. – A 2" OD tube model is also included. It's relatively short but can be scaled along the Z-axis to any desired length—useful for those printing their own custom-length tubes.

🧱 BASE DETAILS

The base includes:

• Mounting slots to fit common 70–80mm fans (maybe smaller?  Untested)
• Angled glue plate for a microswitch (ideal: roller-lever style) to detect pod insertion.

⚠ No screw holes for the switch—just glue it in place. Use a finished pod or cartridge to help align it during setup. This design choice was made to maximize parts compatibility and simplify sourcing.

🔄 UNIVERSAL POD CAP

The Pod Cap is interchangeable and threads securely onto:

• The top of the Cartridge Collar (green),
• The top of a Print-A-Pod (grey),
• Or even the bottom (Coupler) end of a cartridge (blue) or pod during desiccant exchange.

There is also the Pod Coupler Cap so you can “stack” pods and/or cartridges (mix and match as you like).

🧪 MODULAR CARTRIDGE OPTION

Ideal for customization or visibility.

Assemble with:

• Cartridge Coupler (blue)
• Cartridge Collar (green)
• 2" OD tubing (≥50mm length)
• Glue (Cyanoacrylate “SuperGlue”)

The tapered Coupler is designed to activate the switch inside the base. Use a fully assembled cartridge to help position the switch correctly before gluing.

Modular cartridges are great for:

• Custom lengths
• Easily check indicating color

🖨 PRINT-A-POD (SIMPLEST OPTION)

Prefer print-and-go?

• The Print-A-Pod is an all-in-one desiccant pod.
• Still requires a Pod Cap to close the top.
• Built-in cone automatically engages the base switch.
• No glue, no tube, no fuss.

Perfect for basic setups or spares.

Want to make your own compatible parts? Start with:

• The Cartridge Coupler and Collar—they define the connection geometry and male threading for perfect fit.
• The Pod Cap—if you need the female threading.
