I made this wimshurst machine because i always wanted one to play around with and as a decorative piece.  But all the ones I’ve seen available for purchase are to expensive to justify as I have limited use cases for it.

As it will most likely just end up siting on a shelf most of the time I designed for form in most places. Witch was a bad idea as I ended up using gears instead of belts for the drive system. This purely aesthetic choice came back to bite me later when it was time to position the neutralizer. That now needs to sit at a very shallow angle. Witch in turn limits the maximum output Voltage. That being said this is still a great decoration piece and still fully functional. You just shouldn't expect any voltage records, though that’s likely not the goal of any machine with a mere 200mm disc diameter.

I recommend getting sealed bearings like ZZ or RS typ. Templates for 12 and 24 divisions of the discs and for cutting out the sectors from aluminum tape are attached at the end of the assembly instruction .pdf file. The template pages should be 1:1 as a boarder less A4 sized page.
