A few days ago, my wife was terribly angry because the sink plug had closed the drain and could no longer be opened. The reason for this was that the pressure plate on the sink plug was too small.

Any normal person would go to the hardware store and buy a sink plug with a larger pressure plate, but I decided not to be a normal person and bought a 3D printer instead and am learning how to use FreeCAD, so this is what came out of it.

In this project I learned some interesting things about FreeCAD and 3D printing:

  • how to use the Fasteners Workbench to create a threaded rod with exact measures
  • to use random seams in order to get a perfect and smooth threaded rod

As usual this project is full parametric with all measured stored in variables, in order to make it simple to resize some parts.

p.S.: In Germany you have no chance to get a new sink plug in the hardware store without knowing his exact name "Waschbeckenstöpsel".
