Beacon that we use for simultaneous USBL tracking and visual recording underwater. The beacon ("GRAV") consists of a 3D-printed bracket that holds a Subsonus USBL tag, 2x GoPros in underwater housings and 2x Buoyancy floats. The beacon sits on top of a 1.2-1.8m telescopic pole and keeps the USBL at a distance from the diver's ears, and provides a stable top-down camera view to enable visual positioning and recording of activities (in our case specimen collections).
We attach the beacon with a ¼ inch stainless steel bolt into the top of a telescopic pole or selfie-stick of which the bottom is attached to a 2lb weight with another ¼ inch stainless steel bolt through the weight.
