Larger and more intricate 3D prints require higher precision in printer calibration, particularly when it comes to laying down the first layer. This calibration part is designed to ensure that your print head maintains the correct height above the build plate, no matter where it is in the XY plane.
Achieving a perfectly level build plate is a skill that improves with time and practice. While tools like spirit levels and the human eye can be helpful, using a calibration print provides a much more accurate and reliable way to fine-tune your setup.
Important Tip:
Always print this calibration part at the lower end of your filament’s recommended temperature range. For example, PLA that’s on the runnier side will be more forgiving when the build plate is slightly misaligned.
Instructions:
Print the calibration part.
Tweak your printer settings as needed for accuracy.
Repeat the process until you achieve a perfectly calibrated first layer.
