Some lights are very light and can hang just by the electrical wire. This is a simple block you can screw to the ceiling and it can hold the wire by keeping it in a bend. You need relatively stiff wire to hold, most kinds of electrical wire will probably work, but you should use wire made for holding the weight of the lamp/device. Also the wire should fit snugly and have a high intrinsic stiffness, so it doesn't slip out.
So far (months later) it is still holding well.
