I wanted to have a better view inside the printer and the original hat blocked it.

This mod for the Infimech TX was in the making for some time. I didn't really like the top hat with which it came but I understood its purpose and the cost saving it brought to make this great machine affordable. Being a 3d printer it “made” it make this upgrade for itself.
So onto the mod. All the measurements bellow are in millimeters. I did many options for it in the design phase so you will find them in the stl section grouped together. I know its acrylic, but I'll refer to the clear panels as glass.
The common parts are:
- The POSTS
- The Top glass that measure 357x366. I hand cut mine by hand (with a circular track saw) to 356x365 (measured with a tape)
Solid side and back panel version
- Print the stls fom the “Solid 3d printer panels”. Maybe print them one by one and be aware of the orientation so you get the same finish on both joining panels.
Vented versions:
- Large side vents (!!!UNTESTED!!!!):
- One plate for each side if you don't want to make them with accent colors
2. Front half-and-half:
- You will need a piece of glass of 333x50 and the FRONT SMALL VENT stl
Glass side and front:
- If you want glass panels, you will need 2 x 338x100 (for the side panels) and 1 x 333x100 (for the front).
Back with fan opening:
- This is the version I printed. It gives you the possibility to relocate the exhaust fan. I haven't relocated it yet so I made two panels to cover the hole, print just one, whichever you like ( !!!the one with the protrusion is untested!!! but it should fit)
Accessories:
- Handle
- Swing arm, it will keep the cable and the ptfe tube from touching the top glass
- Hinges, I designed them so they can be removed easily (lift-off style)
- Post with spool holder that orients the spool to the BACK compatible with my Print in Place Filament Spool Roller, it replaces the rear left post
- PTFE Guide for easier loading and unloading of filament. It guides the tube to the side of the printer
- (UPDATE 18.10.25) Post with spool holder that orients the spool to the LEFT compatible with my Print in Place Filament Spool Roller, it replaces the rear left post
The handle, swing arm and the hinges are all in one stl, you can choose what you want from there.
Hardware:
- Posts to frame - M4x16 (don't use longer or shorter) - use washers so you won't overthigten, squish the plastic and get near or block the belts (don't ask how i know)
- Panels to Posts - M3x16 (plus nuts)
- Panel to Panel - M3x6 (plus nuts)
- Stock fan exhaust - M4x16 (plus nuts)
- Swing arm - M4x6 (plus nut) to join the two pieces and M3x16 to attach it to the back panel
Tips
- To get the M3 nuts in the prints I used a screw from the other side of the print to “pull them in” as it is a tight fit
- When assembling the glass panels if you cut them yourself i would suggest drilling the holes with the posts mounted to the frame and aligning them with the holes on the posts.
- For the hinges, first mount them on the back panel, assemble them so the hinge is complete, then drill the necessary holes in the top glass
Printing
I printed everything in PETG. I use a .6 nozzle and set it to 3 walls, 4 tops, 4 bottoms and 20% crosshatch infill. If using a .4 nozzle do 4-5 walls.
