I had been thinking about cycloidal drives for a bit, so I decided to try making one of my own just to see if I could. This is a 1:8 ratio cycloidal drive, with loose tolerances, that I designed to play around. It's meant to be used with 608 bearings at the input and output (I used 608ZZ, same dimensions but with metal shielding on both sides).

Can't say much on settings recommendations since I used a 0.6mm nozzle (yes, I'm impatient), and I didn't design it having actual mechanical work in mind. I might publish a more refined version if I continue playing around with this (need to use a bearing to connect the input axle with the hypocycloid as well).

Here's the settings I used in case someone wants them though, the print files available are for an Anet A8 and have these settings so keep that in mind:

  • Material: Graphite Black PLA 1.75mm
  • Nozzle: 0.6mm hardened steel
  • Temps:
    • Hotend: 205
    • Bed: 55
  • Widths: PrusaSlicer automatic (0.68mm, except top infill which is 0.6mm)
  • Speeds [mm/2]:
    • First layer: 25
    • Perimeters: 40
    • Small perimeters: 30
    • Infill: 40
    • Bridges: 60
    • Gab fill: 20
    • Travel: 50
  • Extra hardware:
    • 2 ball bearings code 608ZZ
    • 4 M4 screws 15 mm long (not counting head)
    • 4 M4 nuts
    • 4 M4 washers (optional, I had them laying around with the other stuff)
