My wife had found some nice 5.7 inch Wheat Straw plates (I guess they're like PLA, maybe?) that are broad and low enough to hopefully reduce whisker fatigue in our elderly cat (Wangshiqi brand on Amazon, if you're interested).
The leftovers would go to the outdoor critters, but we kept having ants get into it. I couldn't find a solution and the feedback was that it needed to be sturdy enough for the cats to not knock the bowl off the top.
This design has a lower moat and an upper bowl-holder that has a cutout to allow for easily adding water to the moat. The upper bowl is just short of the bowls we are using and seems to hold it well.
For the print itself I used generic PETG with .25 mm layer height and added a 5 top layer. I used support cubic at 10% for the infill, added a skirt with 4 loops for starters, and used automatic painting of Organic supports. It slows the print down but the upper bowl needs the added support due to the steep overhangs.
If you import the 3mf file it may warn that there are items at multiple heights, just say “yes” and it should import correctly.
Happy printing.
