Background

I personally wanted to track how fresh the coffee in my office is. This allows now the first person that brews a fresh coffee to switch the toggle at the start of the day. If you want to grab a coffee in the morning you can check if the switch for the current day was already triggered, if not it was brewed yesterday. Since I only needed the work week, I took more time to build it for monday to friday and only created a simple version for the full week.

No AMS

This was designed to be printable without AMS, but still allow colorful highlights. Add manual breaks to switch filaments; for the top of the switches, the letters and for partial sliders once the raised part of the slider starts.

Versions

Version 1 - Magnets

  • I used 3mm (height) x 5mm (diameter) magnets, they are a very tight fit.
  • You need to add a break to insert the magnets just before they are covered.
  • This is what you want to build for fidgeting.
  • IMPORTANT: The magnets in the slider and in the back-plate must oppose each other!

Version 2 - Friction

  • Not that much fun, but for pure function probably preferable.
  • Same front-plate as for the magnet version.

Notes

  • I recommend to try a single slider first and checkout the tolerances before printing the larger ones.
  • I am new to 3D printing and especially modeling, tried my best with FreeCAD
  • It is very hard to join the front and back-plate together once you get to 4 or more sliders.
  • I printed them on a CoreOne with PLA, 0.15mm STRUCTURAL Profile, HF 0.4 Nozzle, 15% infill
    • If your highlight color is translucent you might want to increase the infill to avoid being able to see the infill patterns.
  • With PETG the print did not turn out that great for me since the tolerances were to tight.
  • In a prior version I added the text directly on the front-plate as an extrusion but that was a pain to print due to the required supports, instead I opted to plot the text for this version. Feel free to add it directly to the model instead.
