This is a simple mold I made for making silicone molds for making coasters. In other words, the model here is an inverted mold for making another mold. The subsequent mold is made of silicone. The shape of the mold is that of a coaster.

The second version has a fill line of sorts, and a slot for draining. I think I'd like to iterate on this further, but already I'm finding v2 is yielding better molds.

  1. 3D print the inverted mold found here (ironing is recommended)

  2. Pour 2-part mixed-but-not-yet-cured silicone into the inverted mold

  3. Allow silicone to cure, peel out the silicone mold

  4. Pour resin into silicone mold

  5. Coaster!

I like to use ArtResin, it is food-safe upon curing and fairly easy to work with.
