Introduction

Sashiko (刺し子, lit. 'little stabs') is a type of traditional Japanese embroidery or stitching used for the decorative and/or functional reinforcement of cloth and clothing. (Wikipedia, 2025)

About

This is an original design 160mm square Sashiko template with notches so that you can mark its position and then rotate it by 90 degrees to make orthogonal lines. The idea is to use a fabric marker that washes out once the stitching is complete.

Features

This was designed in Autodesk Fusion (Fusion 360) in rather a hurry but nonetheless as parametrically as possible. Variables include:

  • Main length
  • Hole (line) width
  • Height
  • Corner (cutout) length
  • Line inset (how far from sides
  • Spacing (between lines)
  • Line number (of line holes)
  • (Top) chamfer length

Printing

  • No specific instructions as it's a fairly straightforward print.

Remixing

  • Pleaes do, but also please note it's a copyleft license so share your work accordingly.
