Foldable 5-Point Star with Textured Build-Plate Finish

This model is a simple, foldable 5-point star designed to take full advantage of textured build plates for beautiful surface finishes.
Each point is printed flat on the bed so the first layer texture becomes the visible outer surface—ideal for satin, textured, carbon fiber, holographic, and other specialty sheets.

The included STL files are pre-oriented for printing and assemble into a star with a 20 cm radius. If scaling, be sure to scale uniformly in all directions.

There is also a lighted version of the Star One. Find that one here:

Print Instructions

  • Print all parts flat on the build plate to capture the surface texture.

  • The first layer of the outer shell must print as one continuous area.

  • Ensure the first layer lines are printed perpendicular to the axis of each star point—otherwise the shell may tear when folding.

  • Layer height: 0.2 mm recommended.

  • Build plate: Textured, Satin, Carbon, or Holographic sheets give excellent results.

Assembly Instructions

  • Fold each part along the designed hinge lines.

  • Glue the seam of each point.

  • Use the included jigs to ensure consistent shape (there is slight flex).

  • Glue the completed points together to form the star.

  • CA glue is recommended—clamping is difficult.

  • Add your hanging wire or string before closing the final point!

  • Hang the star and enjoy the textured finish.

Fit & Accuracy Tips

For best results, try to keep the measurements as givin in the picture below within ±1 mm.  this will ensure a good fit. Dry fit with the jigs first to see how yours line up!
If needed, use thin shims (like failed first-layer prints) to help hold parts in position while gluing.
