Are you looking for a highly customizable, modular way to organize your Army Painter/Valley/Tamiya/etc. hobby paints?
With this system you can build a stand that perfectly suits your needs.
The Printables Store version is the latest evolution of this system. It uses screws to hold the parts together and allow for easy on-the-fly changes.
The base unit of the system is comprised of two sides, a back, and several tiers with spaces for up to five paint bottles per row. Versions are provided for 24.5mm bottles (Army Painter/Vallejo) and 36 mm bottles (Tamiya etc).
Included are sides to build units from 3 to 6 tiers, i.e., 15 to 30 bottles!!!
You may also choose to use “offset tiers” for four bottles that sit in the gap between the five-bottle tiers, for improved visibility (or just looks).
You can further modify your setup by adding center pieces to connect several units. So for example, one left side, 3 tiers of bottle holders, one center piece, another 3 tiers, and a right side can be connected to create a holder for 30 bottles. Of course, you can mix and match, e.g., 5 tiers on the left of the center piece, 3 tiers on the right, for 40 bottles. Or you can use 2 center pieces to connect 3 units, etc.
While the sky's the limit, make sure you don't go crazy. I personally use a rack of two connected 6 tier units for 60 bottles, and it's quite heavy and probably at the upper end of what's sufficiently stable.
Wait, there's more!
I have added an optional tray and a brush holder unit, with 8 holes for Army Painter brushes with triangular handles and 8 holes for Army Painter brushes with round handles. If the brush holder is used, do not install a back in that unit.
In Version 3 (the Store version) I modified the connecting mechanism to use screws. For one, the locking mechanism used in previous versions works fine but can be a bit flimsy and may need acrylic glue to work perfectly. Screws are easier to install and are more robust. Second, with screws it's much easier to modify the paint rack when your needs evolve.
Version 3 is not compatible with previous versions. Version 2 is and will still be available for free.
Bill of Materials
My recommendation is to use thread-cutting screws for plastic, #4 size, 5/16" long. McMaster has them as part #94629A160. Other similar sized self-tapping screws may work as well but I haven't tried them.
Suggested Print Instructions
Material: PLA or PETG
Layer Height: 0.2 or 0.3 mm
Infill: 15% Cubic or Gyroid – for the love of God do not use the default Grid, which is evil.
Supports: No
Sides and center parts can be printed standing upright or lying flat, in which case make sure the slots where the tiers go are looking upward
To create a honeycomb pattern for sides and/or tiers:
Lay the sides flat. Select 20% honeycomb infill and set number of top and bottom layers to zero. See attached Prusaslicer 3mf file for example.
Assembly
No rocket science. Start with two sides, connect the back to them, then add tiers, trays etc. If you use the brush holder, don't use the back component.
