In the early 1990s, despite all objections from environmental activists, a nuclear power plant was built in the quiet town of Yutanta. The plant operated for fourteen years without any apparent problems. But at the end of its fourteenth year, a young scientist working there noticed a strange gas leaking from the reactor—one that carried nuclear contamination. He immediately reported his discovery to the higher-ups, and the incident was quietly contained before it could reach the press.

But it was already too late. A small portion of that gas had already escaped into the atmosphere, carried by the wind to a deserted area near the town, where it fell back to the ground with the rain. The rainfall formed only a tiny puddle—just enough for a cow to drink in a single breath. Yet this puddle was not normal. From the outside, it sparkled like a diamond, glowing as if lit from within. Whatever that glow was, it seemed to frighten the nearby animals, for none of them dared approach it.

None of them... except a turtle.

That day, a small land turtle, dizzy from a long bout of thirst, slowly made its way toward the shimmering water despite its unease. As it approached, it began to hear a thin, high-pitched sound that followed it no matter which way it moved. Standing at the puddle’s edge, it bent down—and shivered when it saw its reflection. The shape on the water’s surface was not its own, but something so horrific it defied description. It tried to pull back in panic, but just then, a clattering noise came from behind.

A snail was rolling rapidly toward it. Before the turtle could escape, the snail collided with it, and the two tumbled into the glowing water together.

The moment they touched the water, an indescribable pain engulfed their bodies. Both the turtle and the snail felt something changing. It was as if their bodies no longer belonged to them—drawn into the form of something else, something new.

After a while the pain began to subside, and they opened their eyes. They were different now. Or rather… they had become one.

The turtle was no longer standing on four legs but on two. The snail had two arms and two legs. Yet they shared a single head… a single body… and two different minds. They could hear each other’s thoughts and see each other’s memories.

Soon, a thought crossed their minds: the water. It was nowhere to be seen. When the turtle lifted its foot, it noticed a faint glow underneath. The water was there—only now there was less of it. Somehow, part of it had become a component of their new body.

At that moment, a dog ran past. When they looked up, they froze in shock: it was an ordinary dog, but it stood at their knee level! Not only had they merged, but they had grown to a height nearly human.

Fear and confusion tangled together as the sound of approaching human voices sent them into another panic. They quickly scanned the area, made a unanimous decision, and hid in the nearby bushes. Two people walked by, complaining about the gloomy weather and the metallic taste in their mouths.

And the strangest part… the symbiote understood them.

Suddenly, a debate erupted inside the shared mind of the turtle and the snail:

“What are we?”

They were no longer merely the fusion of two animals. The radiation had rewritten their DNA and RNA sequences, creating a new consciousness, a new species. They could now increase their vibrational frequency to pass through solid objects, heal rapidly when injured, and lighten themselves enough to glide short distances.

With new powers, a new body, and a new mind, this being had become the living proof of Yutanta’s dark secret.

And their story was only just beginning.
