Use case

Taking only half of an oblong pill is more tricky than it sounds, despite their score line. Being less than 20mm long, they are simply too small to grab them tight with your hands to break them. There are solutions out there that use metal blades, but that comes with a noticeable risk for injuries. This pill splitter makes breaking oblong pills in half very easy, while it is still totally safe to use. There is no significant force needed and there are no sharp metal edges.

Printing

All parts are very simple to print, no supports are needed. To ensure the parts are strong, I printed them from PETG with 4 perimeters and 30% infill. Less might be sufficient as well and PLA will likely work well too. Just print all parts in the uploaded orientation.

Wear-in

Since the thread in the block is printed laying on it's side, it will probably show some imperfections on the "upper" side. Printed on a Puras CoreOne, the thread did work remarkably well right away, but a bit of wear-in is usually needed. Screw the screw in and out about three times, and it will work well. PLA wears in even better than PETG, because the friction heat of the first turns will already help to smooth out the imperfections.

Assembly / Usage

There is almost no assembly. Just put the pill into the frame and place it into the block. Put the screw into the thread of the block, place in the cutter part and tighten the screw. For further use, just un-tighten the screw a bit, the cutter block will not fall out. For storage, I recommend to just tighten the screw somewhat to secure the empty frame inside the block, so you don't lose it.

Happy printing!
