This is a custom grimmerie based on the movie using two 5x7 notebooks. Models were designed in Adobe Illustrator and Tinkercad. The outside covers were designed to be printed face down without supports on a holographic pey build plate. There is a plain outside cover along with an example front cover that includes a pattern. If adding your own pattern, either replace the pattern on the example cover or add one to the plain cover. The pattern is set to 50% of the cover's total thickness (0.6mm / 3 layers)

Printing

Overture Matte PLA, 0.2mm layer height, Only one wall on first layer, 3 walls, 25% Cubic Infill, 6 Top & Bottom layers. Mouse Ears are recommended for all models except the "Example Outside Cover" (see below). For the Inside Covers, I changed the filament at layer 7 to print the hinge a different color.

I didn't like how mouse ears and brims apply to the pattern. To work around this, I manually adjust the settings to add 3 Skirt Loops with a 0mm distance. This helped keep the outer edges held down once it started printing the bridges over the pattern on my printer. I also kept the heat up on the bed after the first layer, reduced bridge speed, and increased the bridge flow rate.

Note: The skirt setting is not currently a per-object setting in the current version of OrcaSlicer. Remember to manually adjust this setting before printing if using the provided 3mf file (the 0mm offset is saved).

Post Printing

Trim the notebook to size. We used an x-acto blade to cut and sandpaper to smooth the edges. We under-trimmed the outer edge of the notebook so the covers would extend past and allow us to glue to the inner seal model.

The best adhesive may vary depending on the type of notebook you use. For the faux leather notebooks we got at the dollar store, we used E6000. Cut a piece of scrap filament and insert into the hinge to connect the two inside covers. I used a torch to melt and bend the ends to keep it in place.

The inner seals were used to hold the covers onto the original notebook covers with adhesive. I think they worked well enough, but could use improvement or may even be skipped.

The pattern used on the Example Outside Cover is from Background Vectors by Vecteezy.
Photos of the Outside Cover design use a personalized version of the pattern which is not included.
