This is a working model of Beranger type scale. This model is fully usable, and gives 0.5—1 gram accuracy right from the printer without additional hardware — due to ingenious mechanics, invented in the late XIX century. There is no rotating pivots involved!

Please, note — this is fully working, but mostly demonstrative model, so it may not serve well as an everyday tool. I've "stretched" the mechanism vertically and made it narrower for better observing and greatly simplified stopper mechanism.

You have to print:

  • beranger_v1-foot_with_stopper.stl — x2

  • beranger_v1-lower_hook.stl — x2

  • beranger_v1-main_prizm.stl — x1

  • beranger_v1-stand_part.stl — x2

  • stopper_beam-round.stl — x2

  • weighting_cup-cup.stl — x2   — fancy cup

  • weighting_cup-leg.stl — x2 — fancy cup leg

  • beranger_v1-lock_cover_draft.stl — x2

  • beranger_v1-main_lever.stl — x1

  • beranger_v1-sec_beam_part.stl — x2

  • beranger_v1-top_platform.stl — x2

  • suspension_2-35mm.stl — x4 (red parts on photo)

  • weighting_cup-flat.stl — x2 — flat variation of weighing cup.

Use photo as reference. First, glue together stand parts (foot and stand), than hook the two suspension links to bottom hooks, slide hooks to it's slots and attach lock covers — I've used light double sided tape, the connection may be undoable.

Fit the main lever with main prism together to the stand (prism must fit with sharp edge up), than attach all other parts. Balance scales by adding some weight here and there until they balanced.

If you've chosen flat cups, just print them (1 part for each cup), if you want the fancier ones, you have to attach/glue legs to cups before assembling.

Finally put the stopper beams in place.
