An open-source container generator for openGrid, using the openConnect system. It's designed for Vase mode printing, which allows for fast print times, low filament usage, and a clean appearance, especially with translucent filament. It can be used as a lightweight openGrid bin for holding all kinds of everyday items.

When printing, make sure to enable Vase mode in the slicer. In Orca Slicer or Bambu Studio, this is done by enabling the setting Others → Spiral Vase and selecting "Yes" at the popup. Then, go to Quality → Line width to change the width to the preferred value.

Several example .stl files are included, with the parameters used to generate them in the file names.

Customization guide:

  1. Set "vase_linewidth". Use the same line width in the Customizer and in your slicer. A good starting point is 150-200% of your nozzle size, such as 0.6-0.8 mm for a 0.4 mm nozzle, or 0.9-1.2 mm for a 0.6 mm nozzle.

  2. Set the container size. Use "horizontal_grids", "vertical_grids", and "depth_grids". If you need a specific depth, enable "use_custom_depth" and set "custom_depth".

  3. Set "vase_tilt_angle". Increasing the tilt can make the contents easier to see or reach, but you can also set both it and "vase_front_inset_angle" to 0 for a straight vertical container.

  4. Choose "vase_surface_texture". Select "Checkers", "Cubes", "Diagonal Ribs", "Wave Ribs", or "None" to turn texture off completely. Adjust the texture with "surface_texture_size" and "surface_texture_depth". The patterns on the sides are designed to be complementary, allowing multiple containers with the same texture to be installed side-by-side seamlessly.

  5. Optional: add a label holder. Use "label_holder_type". Choose "Standard" for a normal label holder, or "Split-Left" and "Split-Right" when two narrow containers should share one longer label.

  6. Optional: make a matching label. Use the label generator.

The model is open-source under the CC-BY-SA license. Like all the OpenSCAD models I've designed for openGrid, it can be found in this GitHub repository. Feel free to use the code; feedback and suggestions are welcome.

2026-01-24 Update: Improved the vase slot design and added an optional label holder.
