This riser support is designed for the Work Sharp Ken Onion Mk.2 Blade Grinding Attachment.
The riser makes it easier to maintain a consistent sharpening angle between the knife and the sanding belt, resulting in a noticeably sharper final edge and it should already be included as a standard component in the original Blade Grinding Attachment.
Mounting Options
The rear of the riser includes a 3 mm mounting hole, allowing the riser to be securely fastened to the attachment. This helps prevent movement and potential damage during sharpening.
For screw mounting:
Drill a 2.5 mm hole in the aluminum housing and tap M3 threads, or
Drill a 3 mm hole and use a 3 mm screw with a nut.
Optional Modifications
A piece of leather can be glued to the 45-degree rear ramp for manual stropping or polishing.
A polyurethane (PU) adhesive is suitable for this purpose.I primarily use a 15-degree sharpening angle, so I additionally glued a thin steel plate on top of the riser to reach closer to the sanding belt. This modification is optional.
A two-part epoxy adhesive was used to attach the steel plate.
A thin layer of two-part epoxy resin was applied on top of the steel plate to prevent scratching the knives during sharpening.
