This test is designed for 2mm thickness tests:
You may want to increase Z dimension in slicer to test more thick designs, but generally 2 mm is fine.

Does this print nicely (especially look at presence of angel hairs) with basic configuration?
YESSS, victory.
If not :
Your filament is whether of bad quality or more probably too wet (and yes, even this 4 years old PLA can be wet).

What is the transparency?
Look through this test with the other filament you plan to use and point sun or a light bulb...
-> Do your job at guessing whether the filament will comply with your needs.

Also it will provide you with nice information about print quality and general apparence of top surfaces you will achieve.

Best use case scenario :
Print it at the filament opening, and redo-it later to compare print quality and assess filament age/dryness.
