This coaster mold kit includes two main mold halves, a ring base to be overmolded in the epoxy, and a table clamp jig for ease of use (optional). If you're using a 1:1 epoxy resin, try out my custom epoxy mixers tailored for the volume of this mold.
When printing the 0101-CST1 file, all required components are included. Split the assembly into objects, and orient flat as shown. No tricky overhangs are present, and no supports or special print settings are present, and no supports or special print settings are needed. Post-print surface finishing of the mold base components may be required, depending on your print resolution/ quality.
Before casting the coaster, I recommend coating the entire mold surface with a mold release agent. If this isn't something you have on hand, I'd recommend using petroleum jelly, but keep the coating thin and even, as the resin will pick up all imperfections.
Pour the epoxy into the cavity of the coaster mold. Fill the mold up to just below the brim. Once the epoxy has hardened, unclamp the mold and carefully shear apart the mold plates (pulling apart in tension will not work due to the coaster's brim).
**For a halo-like multi colored coaster, mix together a small amount of epoxy and color dye, and pour into the outer well section of the mold. Only fill the outer well to just below flat middle section. Let this color mix partially cure to avoid color bleeding (this takes about an hour for a 24hr slow-curing epoxy). Fill the remaining volume of the mold with clear epoxy. **
Let the coaster fully cure before attempting any polishing. Recommend blending from 120 grit to ~1000 grit for a refined surface finish—buff with wax for a true polished shine.
