I have a few use cases where generic Gridfinity bins aren't the best option, I didn't want to print a custom bin, and I wanted something that I could quickly modify for what I need to store at the time.

As I worked on it I realised I could use a horizontal peg board both on the table and in drawers to achieve what I wanted:

  • I could use the pegs to make storage that can take on any shape and size depending on my needs and the time for larger items

  • For cylinders that I wanted to keep upright, I could use the pegs around its perimeter or through a hole in it

  • For items that I wanted to have a place without printing a shadow box, I could trace its perimeter with shorter pegs

  • I could also use pegs to keep my various cards separated, and each section could grow and shrink based on the available stock.

So here I created a peg board base with 5mm holes, and 10mm tall. Generally I target 6mm of contact between the pegs and the holes. They are also optimized for minimal filament usage, so it costs less than 5g per cell to print. No supports or infill required.

I personally use 4.9mm diameter pegs, however that will be different depending on your filament and printer. So I would suggest printing test pieces to get the right tolerances. The only items I would suggest you scale are the pegs.

I printed all my baseplates with Overture Orange PETG, and pegs with Overture Black PETG, using Prusa Slicer default 0.2mm Structural preset. I have a Core One with a 0.4mm nozzle.

I have included the source fusion file for anyone to use as a jumping off point. Hopefully someone else finds this useful!
