These Magnet holder tubes have a space in the cap to embed a magnet so that the stored magnets stay attached to the cap. I think this gives easy access and handling as well as keeping a standard North/South orientation to work with.

If the size you want isn't listed then leave a comment and I can add the size to the downloads.

Print instructions

I used PETG and set Brim Type to Outer Brim Only and 6mm Brim Width. This should help with bed adhesion.
You can obviously use colour however you like but I'll describe making the black, white and clear 6x2mm from the pics above.
Whatever you do with colour you will need to create a pause in your slicer at layer 20 to be able to insert the captive magnet.

  1. In the slicer orient the tube and the cap so that the text faces downward.

  2. The print should start with the text surround colour (White in the pic above of the 6x2 cap).

  3. Set a colour change at layer 5 to load the text body colour (Black in the 6x2 example).

  4. Set a colour change at layer 20 to load the main tube colour (Clear in the pics above).
       - This is also the time to drop a magnet into the recess in the cap.

  5. Resume printing and the magnet will be printed over and held in the cap.

How to determine the North pole of the magnets?

Take a short stack of magnets and lay them inside the lid of a jar (metal lids work well), if you float the lid in a bowl of water it will act like a compass and face North.
