A parametric lens case which allows you to customize the design to your specific lens (requires FreeCAD).

Includes sample cases for the Fuji 35mm f/2 R WR. This may not be similar to your lens, but this is exactly why this customizer exists.  Create a custom case for your rarest and least common optics.

This currently does not work for very short (ie. pancake) lenses, and uses some fixed dimension parameters. If you have difficulty making this case work for your lens, leave a comment and provide your lens model and dimensions. I may continue to update this to more flexibly adapt to given dimensions.

Instructions

Measure the following dimensions of the lens and update the Properties spreadsheet in the LensCaseParametric FreeCAD file.

  • Body Width - the width (diameter) of the lens at the widest point.

  • Overall Height - the height of the lens with the both rear and front lens cap in place.

  • Secondary Height - the height from the rear lens cap to a point on the lens, above which the lens will be exposed with the top case open. Currently the minimum value is ~38mm (depending on Foam Height below).

  • Back Cap Width - the width (diameter) of the rear lens cap at the widest point

  • Back Cap Height - the height of the rear lens cap

  • Foam Height - the thickness of foam used in the top and bottom of the lens for shock absorption. Double this value will be added to the height of the lens at each end. Consider this a margin added to each side. This should be a positive non-zero value (set to 0.01 instead of 0)

Notes

You can mostly ignore the FreeCAD warning Refine failed: Removing splitter failed. This occurs during the helical pattern generation.
