Unlike cast metal the the original puzzle is made from, FDM plastic flexes. This means it's possible to force the parts through the openings in an unintended way. To slightly mitigate this, the dimensions are off and there is a negative clearance at the opening. Printing it with 100% infill for maximum rigidity also helps.
UPDATE: Added a version with normal clearance as some found the original a bit too tight.
