Introduction

The Youtube channel "Sheffield Made Plants" advises to use a soil moisture meter to avoid overwatering. The cheap soil moisture meters with a single pin that don't need a battery work fine. He mentioned it for example here: https://youtu.be/C1x7j2EKx8A&t=596

To remember which plants I have just watered and which plants might need watering in a few days, I designed colored sticks. They can be put in the soil. A cup to hold the sticks is also part of this design.

The color Blue is used for wet soil, and the color Red is used for dry soil. I added two extra colors in between: Green and Orange.

OpenSCAD

The source is a script for OpenSCAD.

OpenSCAD is free software: https://openscad.org/
Be sure to unzip/unpack the zip file before using it.
The file "Colored Plant Sticks.scad" can be opened in OpenSCAD. The script can be used with the "Customizer" of OpenSCAD. The Customizer allows to adjust the design without using the code.

Used libraries:

  1. StoneAgeLib. This is my own library. License CC0 (Public Domain)

  2. Knurled Surface Library V2. From https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:32122 by Thingiverse user aubenc. License CC0 (Public Domain).

Both libraries are included in the zip file.

Printing

The file "Colored Plant Sticks.3mf" should allow all common slicers to move or remove parts, in case it does not fit on the build plate.
No support is needed. I printed it with PETG with only two walls and 20% Gyroid infill.
You do need a number of different colors, that is inherit with the purpose of this design.
