It is a stand for you phone. It can be adjusted to your preferred viewing angle using the gear system, and the mild rachet system helps to prevent slips. Very little assembly is required. You just need to put the cylinder through the hole at the back and put both gears on the cylinder. Friction should hold them together but you can apply a hint of glue if it doesn't. Make sure both gears are in the same position or the main stand will not sit properly. Then put the main stand gear on the thing, making sure the gears intersect properly, and you're done.
