I have printed a few of the original fantastic model with the feeder always in white but with different colour tops. The birds tend to perch themselves on the lower or second tier to quickly grab the food then fly away. It is a grab and go. The Blue Tits sometimes stop and dissect the sunflower seeds on the perch.
With the birds landing on the lower or second tier, the food on the lower tier wasn't accessible to those birds and it ended up going mouldy. So, to encourage the birds to be comfortable, to loiter a while and to take feed also from the lower tier I added a perch ring.
Adding the perch does encourage/enable slightly larger birds to feed. The original tended to be used by Tits and Finches. This variant adds the slightly larger Sparrows and Robins to the mix.
The feeder uses the same top as the original model.
Printed in 0.16mm layer PLA. 15% infill, 0.3mm brim gap, no support.
NOTE- The feeder has been in place for over a month now and compared to the original the birds do land on the perch and hang around while doing a bit of grazing on the peanut and sunflower seed feast. It's become a favourite for sparrows, coal tits and blue tits.
