3D printed holes often turn out too small, which can make installing heat-set inserts a bit tricky if the pilot end doesn't fit the hole.
These blocks are designed so you can determine the right diameter to use in CAD, ensuring that your threaded inserts are easy to install and maintain their strength.
They are intended for the CNC Kitchen heat-set inserts and may not work with other types or brands.
Instructions
Print the test part with a sufficient number of perimeters, as this will influence the results. A minimum of 3-4 perimeters is recommended. Once printed and cooled completely, try fitting your inserts into the holes. The best diameter allows the pilot end of the insert to just slip in with minimal force, so it stays secure. If it's too small, inserting the screw will be difficult; if too large, you’ll compromise the strength.
Bonus: Melt the insert in at your chosen diameter and check for burr formation behind it. If burrs appear, increase the diameter slightly.
