I'm a huge fan of the Pentel P209 mechanical pencils. Their long and pointed nibs are excellent for detailed work. The 0.3 mm lead is almost as good a a marking knife. The down side is they will poke holes in you and your bag/clothes in a blink. The case holds the four pencils safely.
