I hoped that an octagonal chain link could be printed without supports because each link would have a flat surface against the bed. This didn't work out for 10mm links (see my 100+ link chain and 1000+ link 10m chain), so I scaled it up to 50mm (1.65m long). Unfortunately, it still needs supports. I recommend using a 3 layer raft to increase contact with the bed and organic supports with an overhang threshold of 30 degrees or less. For a single row of links, you can print with a raft and no supports, but the top of each link will be a little stringy on the underside.
I've included a 2 link model, a 6 link single row chain, and a 41 link chain that will use the whole print bed. I've also included the OpenSCAD file for anyone that would like to experiment.
FYI - I ran out of green PLA during the print, so I had to finish in blue!
