This is a two-part barbell clamp designed to attach to a standard prosthetic wrist connector, allowing amputee athletes to securely grip a barbell during weightlifting exercises. The device was designed and printed as part of an assistive device engineering project.
Print Settings
Material: PLA
Infill: 20–30%
Supports: Yes, recommended for the channel area
Layer Height: 0.2mm
Parts
Clamp Half A
Clamp Half B
Print one of each.
Assembly Instructions
Clear any plastic from the threaded insert pockets using a small drill bit or file
Press heat-set inserts into the pockets
Place the two clamp halves around a standard barbell
Bolt the halves together through the insert holes
Thread the bottom connector into a standard prosthetic wrist attachment
Notes
Super gluing a threaded rod into the bottom hole is a simple workaround if a machined connector is not available. A future iteration would improve the prosthetic connector interface and add rubber lining inside the clamp channel for better grip.
