A print-in-place hinge box was created for the purposes of this assignment using Fusion 360 software. First, I drew out a hinge profile that had certain parameters and dimensions that would create an unsupported shape. Then, I extruded both parts of the hinge while adding a tapered cone feature. Afterward, I made a sketch for the box’s footprint and extruded the parts that made up its body. Four separate bodies were reduced to two bodies before I rounded important edges to improve ergonomics and increase structural strength. Other edges were given smaller fillets and the bottom was given a chamfer to avoid sagging on the edge of the bed.
